Welcome to Kirby Allison's Hanger Project!

Many people ask me how and why I started Kirby Allison's Hanger Project. I always had an appreciation for fine men’s clothing. While completing my undergraduate, I took a graduate-level course in tailoring and design instead of Art History! Probably the hardest class I ever took while in college, tailoring my own suit jacket gave me a tremendous appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into men’s garments.

After graduating, I began a career in Investment Banking. While building out my wardrobe, I noticed that the hangers delivered with my suit purchases were inadequate and often quickly destroyed the shape of my jacket's shoulders. Dry Cleaning is a jacket’s worst enemy, and it became apparent that cheap hangers were the second. The hangers that were being given to me, even from high-end stores with thousand-dollar suits, were hardly adequate to keep my jackets looking nice!

Frustrated, I began a quest for the perfect hanger. Not surprisingly, I never found it. But I did find many other men equally frustrated by the absence of high-quality wooden hangers. Many had to beg their Neiman Marcus sales reps for extra hangers. Others resorted to the best plastic hanger they could find. However, nobody was able to find something that actually protected the jacket’s structure and prolonged its life.

Thus began my collaboration with clothing experts and aficionados to learn what the standards would be for the perfect hanger. The decree was simple: create a hanger that is both functional and beautiful. What I came up with was a suit hanger that offered 5x more support than average, came in three different sizes, and featured a felted trouser bar.

The rest is history. Soon after a full-page feature in the Wall Street Journal, I left my former daytime job to pursue Kirby Allison's Hanger Project fulltime. Since then, we have expanded our line of luxury men’s hangers, added women’s hangers, and begun offering other garment care accessories.
