Alfred Sargent Made-to-Order Monkstrap Dress Shoe
Product Description
Accepting orders thru Tuesday, November 15
Alfred Sargent is one of the premier makers of handmade English shoes with over 100 years of history. Lesser known than the majors – John Lobb, Edward Green, and Cleverly – but comparable in quality and craftsmanship, Alfred Sargent offers incredible craftsmanship at a relative bargain. (Read more about Alfred Sargent here).
The Monk Strap is an extremely versatile shoe – it can easily be dressed up and dressed down, worn with a suit or denim. Easy to slip on and off, it is also makes a great travel shoe that is more formal than a loafer. And the plain vamp shows off the antiquing of the finish and quality of the leather.
The shoes are built around a moderate chiseled-toe last, which is updated yet appropriately conservative. It is not your grandfather’s shoe but it also is not that of a hipsters.
The black shoe is handsomely finished with a burgundy interior lining and all-black outsole, one of the many details that set these shoes apart. In addition to the four calf skins in which it can be made, this particular last would style would look incredible in the dark brown suede. On all finishes other than black, the outsole will feature a two-tone finish (as pictured), another detail that sets these apart.
Another detail of these Alfred Sargents that is noticeable to a discerning eye is the quality and durability of the outsoles, which are oak-bark ground-tanned by Rendenbach in Germany. Not only is the quality of the uppers of these shoes incredible, but Sargent puts an equal amount of work into the finishing the outsoles. Because of the way that the outsoles are tanned, they are incredibly water resistant, durable, and resistant to chipping, resulting in many more years of use than ordinary $300 to $400 shoes.
Every pair will come with a free pair of Ultra Shoetrees and matching Saphir Médaille d'Or shoe polish in either a cream, wax, or neutral suede spray. Each pair also comes in Alfred Sargent's first-rate box and plush shoe bags. If you purchase more than three pairs, I will add a jar of Saphir Renovateur and a Full-Length Mortimer Shoehorn ($200 value).
Made-to-Order Lead Time
All Alfred Sargent orders will be submitted to the factory within a week after the last of orders being accepted. Production lead time for custom shoes – remember, these are being made especially for you – is approximately 14 weeks. This puts the expected delivery somewhere in February.
The Fit
The Alfred Sargents are built around Last 724, which fits "true to size." You need not adjust your size up or down because of the last. Unless otherwise requested, all shoes will be constructed in a standard D width. However, we can construct them in a wider E width upon request (just email me or call Customer Service). If you have any particular sizing questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
